FAQ
How does the AlgaeTower work?
The AlgaeTower is a compact photobioreactor for indoor use. A living culture of the microalgae Chlorella vulgaris circulates inside. Light and air supply provide the algae with everything they need for photosynthesis: they absorb carbon dioxide from the air and release oxygen, just like plants, only in a compact, liquid culture.
How much oxygen does the AlgaeTower produce?
Chlorella vulgaris is among the most photosynthetically active organisms in existence. Microalgae can sequester many times more CO₂ per unit of biomass compared to land plants; laboratory studies have measured rates 10 to 50 times higher¹. The reason: every single cell carries out photosynthesis; there are no roots, stems, or leaves that need to be supported.
Exactly how much oxygen your AlgaeTower produces depends on light, cell density, and maintenance. The brighter the location and the denser the culture, the more photosynthesis occurs. On bright days, you can even see it: fine oxygen bubbles rise in the culture. The AlgaeTower does not replace ventilation; it brings one of nature's most efficient photosynthetic systems into your room.

Is the content toxic?
No, the algae contained are non-toxic and harmless to humans.
However, they are in a freshwater culture medium that is not suitable for consumption.
Furthermore, this is a non-sterile culture. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that it is free from other microorganisms. These products are intended for observation purposes only.
How is the AlgaeTower operated?
The AlgaeTower is easily powered via the included USB-C cable.
Place it in a well-lit location, ideally near a window with indirect daylight or under a suitable LED light source. Direct sunlight should be avoided, as it can overheat the crop.
How often do I need to refill something?
For optimal oxygen production, we recommend replacing approximately 20 to 30 percent of the liquid with fresh nutrient medium (water and AlgaeTower Nutrient Mix) every 2 to 4 weeks.
Even without refilling, the AlgaeTower will generally function smoothly for up to three months. After that, we recommend a thorough cleaning and, if necessary, the use of a refill kit to renew the culture.
