The ZeaLite LED Grow Light has been specially developed for the cultivation and care of bioluminescent microalgae. Your algae need 8–16 hours of light daily, with 12 hours being optimal. The LED Grow Light handles this automatically for you, so you no longer have to worry about it.
With three programmable timer settings (8h, 12h, or 16h), you can perfectly adapt the light cycle to the natural day-night rhythm of your algae. Four adjustable brightness levels also allow you to regulate the intensity according to the growth phase—less light for young cultures, more for dense and active ones.
The lamp is USB-powered and can be used with any standard USB power adapter or power bank. It can be positioned both from above and from below.

How does the algae glow?
The glow is created by a natural process called bioluminescence. Certain molecules in the algae, particularly the enzyme luciferase and the substance luciferin, react to mechanical stimuli such as movement. This reaction releases energy in the form of blue light. It's a purely biological process that requires no electricity, batteries, or artificial additives.
Why don't the algae glow immediately after filling?
After shipping, the algae need a few days to recover and resume their natural day-night rhythm (circadian rhythm). Glowing usually begins on the second day—but only during the night phase.
When and how do the algae glow?
The algae glow whenever you move them in the dark. Even a slight twist or a quick shake is enough for them to begin glowing in their signature blue hue. The algae are dormant during the day, but as soon as it gets dark, their nighttime magic begins.
Why do the algae glow at all?
In nature, bioluminescent microalgae such as Pyrocystis fusiformis use their glow as a defense mechanism. When exposed to movement, for example, due to predators or waves, they emit short flashes of light to irritate attackers or attract larger predators that could drive off the original attacker.
Is the content toxic?
No, the algae contained are non-toxic and harmless to humans.
However, they are in a seawater nutrient medium that is not suitable for consumption.
